Due to the COVID-19 pandemic we're currently going through some really tricky, uncertain and potentially scary times, for many of us on an unprecedented scale. It is understandable that you might feel confused, anxious or scared, and so might the people you'll be supporting as a volunteer.

As you're practicing community care by being a Queer Mutual Aid volunteer, please make sure to practice good self-care too. Keep checking in with yourself about your capacity to do things and if it changes, that's ok! Try being honest with yourself and others about what your current capacity is and reach out for support from friends, family or support services if you need it.

It is also important to practice good boundaries with the folks you'll be supporting. Be honest and transparent about the things you can and cannot do. If any interaction with the people you support makes you feel unsafe or uncomfortable feel free to leave and not proceed.

In case you require a bit more emotional or crisis support here are some phone numbers and online chat. Feel free to share these numbers if you're checking in on people and they disclose any distressing thoughts to you.
